Funding Sought To Correct Channel Bridge Flood Danger

The State Legislature is being asked to fund corrective work to get storm water in the Montoyas Arroyo safely to the Rio Grande without flooding parts of Corrales.
The Southern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority (SSCAFCA) has included work on the arroyo drainage under Corrales Road in its 2012 legislative capital outlay request.

Clauser, Gagliano Seek Re-Election To Council; Who'll Replace Gerhart?

Three candidates are running to replace Councillor Sayre Gerhart who opted not to seek a third term.
The two other incumbents whose term on the Village Council runs out in March are seeking re-election: Gerard Gagliano in District 2 and Pat Clauser in District 6.
Clauser is unopposed for the seat in the March 6 election. But in Gagliano’s district west of Corrales Road generally between Camino los Milagros and Angel Road, a second person also wants the District 2 seat: Hoyt Hart, a formidable challenger.

Old Church Landmark Tree Cuttings Offered

Cuttings from the doomed Landmark Tree next to the Old Church will be planted as remembrance or solace for villagers who fought to save it.
The tree is expected to be cut down during the week of January 23, according to Village Administrator John Avila.

Corps' Bosque Project Now Under Way

Under the watchful eyes of citizen monitors, contractors for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are clearing areas of the Corrales Bosque Preserve according to scaled-back plans approved by the Village Council last year.
Russian olive trees, Siberian elms and other invasive plant species are being cut and sprayed with herbicide at the south end of the preserve.

Work On Sewer Line May Resume Next Month

Completion of Corrales’ sewer main by the end of summer now seems to depend on getting the flexible pipe installed alongside the Corrales Acequia before irrigation water begins flowing again this spring.
A contract to construct the next phase of the sewer line had not been awarded as of mid-January, but Village Administrator John Avila says he’s still hoping to begin getting homes and businesses hooked up to the sewer line this summer.

More Changes Ahead For Gas Station

A site development plan for the old Corrales Chevron station, now re-named the Fueling Corrales Phillips 66 station, will be presented to the Corrales Planning and Zoning Commission January 18.

The station’s new manager, Micah Garcia, has modifications in mind, including more user-friendly driveway restrictions to replace the unpopular bollards installed all along the frontage by the highway department last year.

Historic Old Cottonwood Doomed? Council May Have Sawdust On Its Hands

Will the venerable cottonwood tree beside the Old Church that’s depicted on the Village of Corrales’ official seal be cut down? 

A decision to remove the designated Landmark Tree near the Old Church may be made at the January 10 Village Council meeting. Councillors delayed a decision on whether to cut it down as recommended by the Corrales Historical Society at their December 13 session, opting to hear directly from a master arborist who has examined the tree.

New Rules Proposed For Demolition Permit

If the Village Council adopts regulations proposed by the Planning and Zoning Commission early next year, rules will change for a property owner or developer who wants to demolish a building in Corrales’ commercial area.

Following a work-study session December 7, the P&Z commission voted unanimously to recommend new regulations for demolition permit applications. The council is expected to discuss the recommendations at its December 13 meeting.
